xbox 360 online play extremely slow?

i have tried to play online several times and it just seems like multiplayer is SOOO delayed...

at least 3/4 of a second or so, and on kickoff sometimes even more....is it like this for everyone, or should i do some router investigation? the last time i played ncaa online for real was ncaa 9 and it was not even close to this delayed
